To my blog followers, I must acknowledge my negligence in not posting for quite awhile. Being in my final year of classes, I just can’t seem to find the extra time to write much of anything on a personal level.
With that in mind, I am taking a few moments to share my latest adventure. Last night my wife and I attended a CSU Channel Island’s fund raising event at the Libbey Bowl in Ojai. For those who are not familiar with Southern California, Ojai in located between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, about 20 kilometers inland.
It is a small community comprised of artists, musicians, and those who wish to be away from “big city life.” Even though Ojai is a mere 35 minute drive from Thousand Oaks, my wife insisted that we stay in a hotel overnight to fully enjoy the short weekend trip. I agreed only because we have not done this for a while, although we could very well have driven back home.
Prior to the concert, we enjoyed dinner at the Ojai Pizza Co., one of our favorite restaurants in the area and then relaxed with coffee in Libbey Park. When the gates opened, we found our seats, settled in, and did some people watching. I saw one of my fellow students who had volunteered to usher, but I did not see any facualty members that I recognized.
The Libby Bowl is a delightfully small venue and provides for a most pleasant experience. Pianist and musician, Bruce Hornsby was the entertainer for the evening. Initally, he played a piece, that to me, sounded like klingon music. But, then, my person preference is the violin.
As he proceeded, his music became more familiar, even some favorites that I was not aware he had written. I also was surprised to hear him say that he has colaborated with Don Henley and Bonnie Raite, two of my wife’s favorites.
As the evening progressed, his music became better and better. He is a true professional, very comfortable with his audience, and interacts on a personal level, all which contributed to a most enjoyable evening. I was actually disapointed when the concert ended. I would have loved to have heard more.
We left Ojai early this morning, and I am now back to studying and working on my Capstone paper. I have missed writing for my blog, and I have made a promise to mysel to try and eak out time now and then to do some “fun” writng.
